Parish Mass Schedule for Christmas
This year (2017) Christmas Day is a Monday, which means the vigil Masses for Christmas will take place
Sunday evening. Does that mean that a Mass on Sunday evening counts for both Christmas and Sunday
(the 4Th Sunday of Advent)? Can one Mass Sunday evening count for two different Mass obligations?
Please be aware that we must attend BOTH a Mass for the 4th Sunday of Advent and a Mass for Christmas. Both of these holy days have a unique and special place in the calendar of the Church.
The prayers and readings at the Mass for the 4th Sunday of Advent are different then the prayers and readings for the
Christmas. One Mass Sunday evening will not count as Mass for both holy days.
Although it will require going to Mass twice in one week (or weekend) during our busy holiday schedule, when we think about it, it is a small inconvenience, and a special way to express thanks to God for all His blessings to us and our families.
