“The Church’s mission is not to preserve power, or to gain wealth; her mission is to offer Christ, to give a share in Christ’s own life, man’s most precious good, which God himself gives us in his Son.”

WorkCamp 2013 - June 22-28

WorkCamp

Go into the whole world”, the Risen Christ still commands us today
(Mk 16:15). Relying on his companionship, St. Ambrose teen parishioners can offer their witness of an authentic and fully human life of love to those in need in other places of the United States and the world.

The Arlington Diocesan High School WorkCamp is an intentional Christian community that provides an experience of direct service for young people within the boundaries of our diocese.  It involves months of preparation that culminates with a week long service project, sponsored by the Office of Youth Ministry, repairing and renovating homes of people who are mentally, physically or financially challenged.  Jesus says that the heart of the Christian faith is found in the two great commandments: Loving God and Loving others.  Loving God and loving others is what WorkCamp is all about.

WorkCamp 2013  “Rediscover”  will take place June 22-28.  St Ambrose WorkCamp applications are available now.  Please click on the link "application" above.

Adult Volunteers are also needed!

Handy-people are needed to volunteer for the week.

As a volunteer handyperson/contractor, your role has many facets:

You will be working with an adult leader and a crew to complete your work project as scheduled.  As the skilled member of the team, you will be responsible for teaching your crew how to do the repairs correctly.  It is the crew’s job to actually do the work under your guidance.  Your projects will be selected based on your expertise as well as safety and time constraint considerations.  It is important that you and the adult leader work together to ensure that he youth follow all safety rules listed on the project outline.  We ask that you set the example in being overly cautious.

You may be asked to purchase (a WorkCamp expense) needed materials to complete the project.  Save your receipts for reimbursement, mark them with the project’s name ,and turn them in to the Project’s Office at Homebase.

Depending on the type of trash generated on your work site, and if you feel your vehicle can handle the load, trash pickup and disposal may be another area that you could be of assistance.

Prayer for missionaries

O almighty God, Lord of the harvest of souls, we ask you to guide and bless all who have gone forth to preach the Gospel. Endow them with the gifts of generosity and concern. Send your Holy Spirit on them, that he may strengthen them in weakness, comfort them in trials and direct their efforts...We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
